What do the cold lovers want?

surge come in, so you will see southwesterlies on some runs but they will
not be tropical maritime southwesterlies. Nothing has changed since

Since you asked, let me see..........
Deep cold, with high pressure over Scandinavia. A deep low pressure
system running up the English Channel with the high pressure forcing
the cold air to under run the uplifted tropical air. Heavy powder
snow, with different crystal varieties, perhaps needles, as well as
the common garden plates. Finally after the snow storm has finished,
for cold crisp air to return with lovely sunny sub-zero days. I’d be
most appreciative if you could arrange this, I even am prepared to
spend the day chopping you logs for you, if you can sort this out!
Thanks in advance

I'm happy enough with it now to be honest - fabulous winter's day here, blue
skies, frost on the ground - what more could a man want?

P.S I suppose sex in the snow with Helen Chamberlain (Soccer A.M) is not on
offer (now that really is fantasy island ;-)

I'm happy with what we've had so far - the best cold spells often
begin slowly before the "real" event arrives. I remember in 1991 most
of January was cold, grey and damp - with maxes never more than 5C -
when I was at college in the Midlands.
By the end of the first week of February I had returned to London in
time for the deepest snowfall event in the South East that I can
remember. That winter was followed by a fairly early, warm spring -
something one or two people have hinted will happen this year...

Here's a youtube link to a classic forecast from that year - the great
Ian McCaskill...

I'd like it just cold enough to kill off the Global Warming Industry.

Though the way it's going I wouldn't be surprised if I got to use my "told
you so"
posts before the end of the decade :-)

I'm just thinking about all those thousands of "scientists" queueing
and fighting for jobs to save us from the advancing glaciers.
They'll already have the graphs to proove that the next ice age
is only 50 years away. They just need to turn the hockey stick
upside down - job done!

I'll have some of that Al, I think the key to what we like is keeping
those temperatures well below freezing, so the snow is powdery and blows
around, settles and looks wonderful. When the sun comes out everything
is bright and crisp (no SAD days), I don't expect a 1963, but a couple
of days would be nice. It's almost as though since I bought my weather
equipment winters have ceased.

The whole 'winter wonderland' scene is what I like to see, something
I've not seen for many a year.

Oh well, back to the ward !

Wow, just look at those day maxes, similar to the *mins* we are
experiencing at the moment.
Brings the current cold spell into perspective.

I think cold lovers should be put down as mentally insane.
Fortunately, if they freeze their bo**ocks off we'll all be in luck,
and future will be a brighter place. (Just joking - I think?) Other
people who should be put down include Esther Rantzen, Cliff Richard
(twice at least) Noel Edmonds, Rolph Harris (for destroying forever my
memoeries of 'Stairway to Heaven') . . .

I know what you mean Paul, unfortunately, regardless of GW, the measures
that are required and being suggested are generally good, it's just the
political will (actions speak louder than words). The problem is, a cold
year, or two, may just be a blip, but will fall into the hands of the
skeptics who don't want to change their lavish lifestyles, you could say
"the Mother of all excuses".

C'est la vie

snipped interesting stuff
But if you tell me what you want I'll see what I can do :-))

Right. This is my wish list.

A really good dump of dry powdery snow, not accompanied by wind.
Then a long spell of cloudless skies with temperatures low
enough to keep the snow powdery, and freeze ponds solidly enough
to skate on them, but no more precipitation, so the roads can be
cleared and disruption kept to a minimum. Then I could go out
for lots of long walks in the snow and admire the magnificent
scenery.

PS I like eggs, yum yum :-))

I can't even look at eggs, let alone eat the revolting things
:-(
