What do the cold lovers want?

It is now turning very cold for the time of year and yet folk still seem to want more? I know there is no snow on offer in the immediate future but we have known that for a while. Also one high cell *has* to sink south to let the very cold arctic surge come in, so you will see southwesterlies on some runs but they will not be tropical maritime southwesterlies. Nothing has changed since yesterday, the broad picture is still there with potentially the best winter cold scenario we have had for years with a distorted and very stubborn omega block in place! But if you tell me what you want I'll see what I can do :-)) PS I like eggs, yum yum :-)) Will -- I'm happy with what we've had so far - the best cold spells often begin slowly before the "real" event arrives. I remember in 1991 most of January was cold, grey and damp - with maxes never more than 5C - when I was at college in the Midlands. By the end of the first week of February I had returned to London in time for the deepest snowfall event in the South East that I can remember. That winter was followed by a fairly early, warm spring - something one or two people have hinted will happen this year... Here's a youtube link to a classic forecast from that year - the great Ian McCaskill... http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=Hd6DuebHliY Thanks for that link. Even down in Cornwall the mins. were forecast to be -7C! I also noticed how Ian talked about several *inches* of snow rather than the several *centimetres* we hear nowadays. Will -- |

Brings the current cold spell into perspective. -- Col Bolton, Lancashire 160m asl ----------------- Thanks for that Col, what memories! Of course that was just an average winter in my lifetime:- http://www.napier.eclipse.co.uk/weather/bonacina.html Check out the above link folks, if you don't already have it. Dave |

Hey Graham
That's an uncharacteristic rant from the far SW. You haven't been on the brandy and lovage, have you!???? ;-) Best regards from the cool SE (-4 and dropping!) Fortunately, if they freeze their bo**ocks off we'll all be in luck, and future will be a brighter place. (Just joking - I think?) Other people who should be put down include Esther Rantzen, Cliff Richard (twice at least) Noel Edmonds, Rolph Harris (for destroying forever my memoeries of 'Stairway to Heaven') . . . ... I'm happy enough with it now to be honest - fabulous winter's day here, blue skies, frost on the ground - what more could a man want? Quite agree. And I'm going to try to get my Quad bike out over my fields tomorrow. Normally they are completely impassable in the winter as the land is very wet, but with the combination of no rain and frosty ground I might just make it. -- Hungerdunger (West Wales) To reply by email, remove the MARX from my address |
