I was just trying to work out what the trigger for this story in today's Telegraph might have been? A press release of some sort? John Dann www.weatherstations.co.uk |

To be fair however, I think it is the media putting the spin on the story as usual. Steve J |

To be serious, there is a widespread confusion between accurate local measurements and accurate local forecasts and not just in the media. Many (most?) people seem to think that if you monitor your local weather in the minutest detail you should be able to come up with an accurate forecast but in fact the link between the two is rather tenuous ecept where the local amateur forecaster can modify the general forecast to some benefit. But none if this makes much difference to the forecasting of synoptic- scale systems. The Telegraph, rather disappointingly, is guilty of promoting this general ignorance.
