At this time of year, in full sunshine and with stable conditions and a
light breeze, approximately what time of day would the expected maximum temperature occur? Dave |

If you click on the link below it will download a MS Word document in which I have cut and pasted a year's worth of graphs that show the times of min and max temperatures for here in the Otter Valley. http://www.btinternet.com/~nickgardn.../minandmax.doc ________________ Nick. Isn't the max temperature largly controlled by the sunshine exposure
especially during the summer months ? .restricted exposure ,south facing gardens ,and all the usual problems experienced by the amateur urban enthusiast,of which there are many on this group I suspect. Oh for the joys of living on Exmoor..... Yes, the max temperatures generally follow the point of highest sun with a slight lag though during December and January the time of max temperature has a tendency to go all over the place. Time of minimum temperature is far less reliable, even in a summer month if the weather is unsettled. Oh for the joys of living on Exmoor..... I don't know, I live near the south coast of Devon east of Exeter so there is also a sea breeze element to take into account. ________________ Nick. Dave It depends quite strongly on the time of year. In Dec/Jan the max is often not much after 1300Z because later in the afternoon the sun is becoming very low. In high summer the maximum is quite a bit later. In neutral conditions a typical time would be 1530Z but that depends, at least here, on the wind direction, given similar amounts of sunshine. With a NE'ly the max here is early (typically 1400Z even in summer) due to cool air from the N Sea or Thames Estuary being drawn in later in the afternoon but with a W to NW'ly the max can be as late as 1730Z. All this assumes a fairly constant level of sunshine. Tudor Hughes, Warlingham, NE Surrey, 556 ft. |

The reason I asked was that in the last few days i was getting a peak around 3pm - 3.30 pm then a slight drop. Then another peak about one degree higher at around 4.30 -5.00 pm. I have concluded the former to be real, the latter to be because the low sun hits the screen at 90 degs full on at the later time at this time of year and there is a small gap of about 3mm above the door which maybe makes a slight difference. I will plug it and see. Cheers, Dave |

I notice this when the sun goes behind a tree in next door's garden. You could rotate the screen so that the door faces north. Bit of a palaver. Tudor Hughes, Warlingham, Surrey. |
