.... reminds me of the episode of 'Yes, Prime Minister', where the
Foreign Office 'mole' in No10 buries the Indian Ocean Situation Report
at the bottom of the last 'Red Box' that the PM is to read (great
episode).

They're all great episodes. Actually, I think the mole didn't bury the
report - that would have been Sir Humphrey or a minion - he warned the PM
about the practice of hiding delicate information at the bottom of the
bottom red box.

I think my favourite is "The Key".

nominally the PM's contact point for the FO.

Luke wrote the "Northern Indian Ocean: Situation Report" and placed it
at the bottom of the FO 'Red Box' for the PM. Hacker (PM) found it,
without prompting, after he had had a little chat with the Israeli
Ambassador. Hacker was, by this time, experienced enough in the ways
of the Civil Service to understand that anything 'vital' would be
carefully hidden!

Martin, thanks for setting me straight on that one. I'd got mixed up with
another story-line. I think the bottom-of-the-red-box scenario cropped up in
an early episode of "Yes, Minister".

I don't think it's fair to called it "buried" - it's in the body
of the report even if it is the last paragraph. In any case, unless
El Niño conditions themselves become more intense or frequent, its
effect at the moment is to slightly reduce the significance of the
high global temperatures.

You're probably thinking of "Big Brother", which is the fourth episode of
the first series. Hacker is told by Tom Sargent (his predecessor at the
DAA) that Humphrey's reasons for not going ahead with the national
database will be found in the bottom of his final red box that night.
