Hi

Does anyone access this newsgroup via "google groups" ?

Mine has developed a problem a few days ago where the text on the left
hand side is overlayed with some form of adverts and links and I
cannot read the start of the messages. Just wondered if anyone else
had the problem or it is just me.

I use Google Groups at work and sometimes at home when Demon news is
playing up and haven't encountered any problem. Saying that, I just
had to enter a number of letters to access Google (on-screen double
check) as it said something about Google had been attacked by a virus
or something so they wanted to varify access manually.

I have signed in and out, re booted PC but no change, all other web
pages appear to be OK

Try changing the view (click options - flip between 'View as tree' &
'standard view')

I have had the same problem twice, once a couple of weeks ago,
the other several months before that. Fiddling with various options
on the page does not seem to make any difference nor does a reboot. I
don't have the problem now so obviously I have done *something* right
in my random key-bashing but I couldn't tell you what. Engage a
troupe of monkeys - they will sort it, eventually. Best of luck.

There is quite a bit missing from that page. Top right should have
recently visited / help / sign in. Below that a text box and search
this group and search groups bttons.

It renders OK on my OS/2 machine under Mozilla 1.7.2. What browser
are you using? Have you fiddled with any javascript settings or maybe
settings in your browser to stop popups or preventing it downloading
stuuf not coming from the same server as the main body of the page?

Followed Tudors advice and hit every key
Holding down Ctrl and doing a refresh of the page at the same time has
cleared the problem

I get the problem on a regular basis. Switching the computer off and
back on again cures it. Loads of thanks for posting the screenshot;
until that, I thought I was the only person on the newsgroup to suffer
from this and that it was a fault with my computer! Not to be alone is
good!

I too had that same problem with another group (sci.space.news) but
not with uk.sci.weather, both of which I access with Google groups.

But thanks to the advice of "Ctrl + refresh", problem has gone away
even after leaving that newsgroup and subsequently returning.
