I suspect that the large number of bergs and the N Atlantic cold SST pool
were probably both caused by stronger than usual NW winds in Davis Strait
during the Spring. I don't have monthly pressure-anomaly charts so can't say
for sure.

Anyone know how the pressures varied from Greenland to the other side
of the Davis Straight over the last 12 months and more?

Significant Low pressures on North America with simultaneous High
pressure over Greenland will in my opinion be the root cause of any
increase in ice (and precipitation generally) heading almost directly
into the Arctic.

This is especially true when the pressure "anomally" (I really hate
that word for natural behaviour depending on simple physics and the
runs of the times of the lunar phases) is "positive". (Ditto for that
one. Bloody experts! WTF do they know?)
