Default Overnight Cold Front Tues/Weds 24/25 November

SNIP

Current radar returns show filaments of line convection on the forward
side of the cold frontal zone extending from Newcastle down towards
Penzance.

Despite the impressive looking radar imagery the front went through Tideswell
at 2315 with barely a whimper. In the 15 minutes before the passage of the
front the wind decreased quite sharply and was less than 10 kt as the front
went through and for a time afterwards. There were no gusts of any note though
there was a short spell of heavy rain. My Davis VP gives a new pressure reading
only every 15 mins, no matter what logging interval I have set. There was a
rise of only 0.6 mb between 2300 and 2315. So, it was pretty much a non-event
here.

Pretty uneventful here as well. Brief sharp burst of rain just ahead
of the front (the line convection Jon referred to), but only 7.9mm in
total for the 24 hours to 09:00.

Also not particularly windy. No gust 45mph at my location, 22nd &
23rd both saw higher gusts. (However, I am sheltered from the S-SW,
much more exposed to the NW & N).

Sunny spells, bief showers & windy this morning, but not a day to put
to sea, in anything. www.minack.com/webcams.htm

Not too much of consequence here either. Seems to have gone through at
0230 (start of sig rain) to 0300 (merest pressure blip - 0.5mb from
trace by eye). Rainfall 5mm to 0400 and no noticeable change in wind
strength. 24-hour record visible until 0200 tomorrow as left (middle)
trace at:

Perhaps it's worth noting that despite the heavy rain and line convection
the tops were fairly restricted on the front. The WAFC charts, for example,
for yesterday evening and overnight had layers up to around 16000 or 17000FT
with no embedded CB activity. Judging by the earlier sferics that looks like
a good call.
