Some sort of slow moving shower seems to be moving across from the
west currently but more significantly, the light levels have been reduced to those typical for around quarter of an hour after sunset. Can recall few such noticeable "day darkness" events as this. Nick |

Just had one flash of lightning and pretty loud peal of thunder. -- Elizabeth |

That we can get more thunder in December than August sums up nicely everything that's wrong with the north-west European climate! Nick |

Rolling thunder - as you say, just like a summer storm, but feels strange when the temperature is so low. The streets lights have been on for a while. -- Elizabeth |

It was quite widespread, covering parts of southeast Wiltshire (near Amesbury) and I encountered further particularly dark skies driving back home. Low patches of stratus about 200ft off the ground were coiling upwards into the embedded Cb. In cahoots with with the thick Nimbostratus, I believe this is the cause of the very dark conditions, December light notwithstanding. Nigel |

Nigel Can only recall two day darkness conditions quite like that one before - one was on Nov 1st this year, when it was about that dark at 8am, more than an hour after sunrise at the time, and the other was in March 2008 when a front came through (gave severe winds in other parts of the country IIRC) and it was dark enough to turn the street lights on sometime round midday!
