Hardly. Being stuck behind someone doing 35mph in a 50mph zone is
_intensely_ irritating. I've seen people overtake in really stupid places as
a direct result.

Maybe they deemed that the safest speed for the conditions. Speed limits
are not targets.

Anyway, back to the weather...

Clear road, good visiblity. Just a slow driver.

Anyway, back to the weather...

Agreed.

Here in Stafford we've had about 1mm of snow (yesterday), although some
harder hit areas have had as much as 2mm where it's drifted.

That's impatience and poor judgement. Not the fault of the driver in front.

Anyway, a hefty 1-2mm of drizzle in Ramsgate overnight!

Around here, most motorists are taking it very carefully. However ....

Half of the drivers don't have their lights on. The other half have
headlights glimmering through snow covered lenses. And nearly all of them
are letting windscreen wipers clear their windows. Idiots.

Before you set off in snow - clear the bonnet, roof and front and rear
windscreen of all snow as if you stop suddenly any snow on the roof will
lurch forward over the windscreen and cover your view completely. Any snow
on the bonnet will obviously continually blow onto the windscreen. Also
advisable to remove powder snow from tops of tyres if it has got on them by
blowing since as soon as you drive off it will compact in the tread and
reduce your stopping ability. Driving is a different ballgame; it needs
practice which is best done obviously on a deserted lane or disused
airfield. The most frightening situation in my experience is coming
downhill, you need to slow down well before the hill and then keep going
slowly avoiding the brakes, if you do have to brake use the deeper possibly
rutted snow at the side of the road, that will stop you. But remember, even
the most experienced drivers on snow, even in 4x4s, can come a cropper, but
will usually come to no harm if you keep your speed down. Dented cars can be
fixed, dented humans are less easily fixed.

Very well put, Will. You don't fancy coming up here and explaining that lot
to all the plebs that live up the road from me, do you?

BTW, the sun's out now.
