Grim chuckle. 'Today' is probably near enough. What would you say to someone who proposed collecting a 7.5 tonne removal van later this afternoon, loading it and then driving overnight from a part of Godalming can become impassable in snow to Hastings. Presumably rest of his family and usual car to be moved as well. He had just bought several large bags of salt. He has to move house, said he'd been too busy to discover until just now that it's going to snow. A raised eyebrow and 'best of luck' seemed somehow inadequate. -- Peter Thomas |

When I was aged three, we moved house on the day ofd the famous snowstorm of 29th March, 1952, from Cranleigh to Effingham, some 20 miles away. By some miracle, I understand that we completed the move successfully, though unfortunately I was too young to have reatined any memories of it./ -- John Hall "Acting is merely the art of keeping a large group of people from coughing." Snowing very gently in Cranleigh and, as far as I can tell by looking out from a darkened room, there's an extremely thin covering on all surfaces. -- John Hall "Acting is merely the art of keeping a large group of people from coughing." Snowing very gently in Cranleigh and, as far as I can tell by looking out from a darkened room, there's an extremely thin covering on all surfaces. Typo. We still have 10 cm in Godalming - presumably the accretion from 1230 to 1730 has been offset by settlement, any phase processes inside the snow and of course any inaccuracy in measurement. In answer to Colin's query the man who was moving drove to Hastings, then with little snow, unloaded, returned here by 0600 this morning. His 7.5 tonne van sits at the very foot of the hill as I write. He and a couple of probably Polish-accented gentlemen - father and uncle, perhaps - were proposing to re-load it this evening by carrying boxes of belongings up and over the hill on foot. Their original plan was to move during the course of today. Hastings, they say, has now got snow. -- Peter Thomas |
