Only half of the cars allowed to drive in Bergen - inversion lid
The local authorities in Bergen, Norway (2nd largest city of Norway)
have banned half of the cars from the inner part of Bergen tomorrow and coming days. Bergen have had the worst air condition in Europe this week. Other measures gave little effect on the quality of the air, so this drastic measue was introduced. The reason for the low quality air is the very cold temperatures from a constant high pressure system above southern Norway in the last weeks. This has brought record low temperatures, and as Bergen is a large city bounded in most directions by high mountains ("syv byfjell"), the denser cold air flows into the low-lying areas while the warm air above traps the pollution from cars, home heathing and industry with an effective lid. See:http://www.bt.no/nyheter/lokalt/Slik...n-1003769.html (in norwegian). The irony this is a bit late as fairly strong winds will occur starting from tomorrow. Better late than ever...? Well as I tried to convey, the winds finally came to Bergen today this
morning, see: http://www.bt.no/vaer/Som-blaast-bort-1005022.html so the politicians desperate measures was not needed. They should really start looking at the weather models, as the rest of us...;-) (Cheaters in Bergen: http://www.bt.no/nyheter/lokalt/Hvor...r-1005024.html) Bjørn Sørheim "Bjørn Sørheim" skrev i melding ... Thank you for these reports, Bjørn.
I just wish my Norwegian were rather better so that I could read it all properly! Anne |

You could use translate.google.com.
Just paste in the link in the box there and you get a fairly good translation of any page. Bjørn Sørheim "Anne Burgess" skrev i melding ... Thank you for these reports, Bjørn. I just wish my Norwegian were rather better so that I could read it all properly! Anne |
