Default Miid Atlantic flow at 10 days: winter will be over...........for awhile!

Enough consistency from the ECM and agreement with the gfs for this:

**At T+240, on Friday, 19th March, the weather in the UK will have an
Atlantic origin. Pressure to our south will be high and the winds will
be mild and between south and north-west. It will follow a short-
lived, colder, northerly flow which will bringing to an end the colder
weather in the east and conditions by the 19th will be warmer in most
areas of the UK than they are presently. Any interruptions to the
Atlantic flow will be in transient ridges of high pressure and any
snow will be confined to the highest hills. There will be some
pleasantly warm daytime weather in many areas in around 10 days time,
if we manage to escape any rain.**

I certainly have my fingers crossed for this one. Finally Spring might
arrive for many.

I was taught that at school 45 years ago. So what's new?

Pressure to our south will be high and the winds will
be mild and between south and north-west.

That's precise. Which way, clockwise or anti-clockwise from the south?

It will follow a short-
lived, colder, northerly flow which will bringing to an end the colder
weather in the east and conditions by the 19th will be warmer in most
areas of the UK than they are presently.

Good!

Any interruptions to the
Atlantic flow will be in transient ridges of high pressure and any
snow will be confined to the highest hills.

Hopefully at 1017 feet asl, which might shut Will up for a while? :-)

There will be some
pleasantly warm daytime weather in many areas in around 10 days time,

What's rain???

Well, we can live in hope. I look forward to your "foot in mouth" posting on
the 20th March. :-)

*)) or (to borrow a phrase) not, as the case may be, but I never mind
anyone judging it at outcome and if this end up as one of those
forecasts that ends up a pile of dog poo, I'll be the first to admit
it!

What you were taught in school was a generalisation. Much of the time
this winter the weather clearly did NOT have an Atlantic origin.

Generalisation, yes, I agree. But without the Atlantic influence I reckon
the temperature would have been at least 30 degrees lower that it generally
was. And that would generally be considered cold.

Without that warm Atlantic influence we'd all be Canadians, or
Russians! *))

Still looking like an Atlantic influence here on the 19th, though the
high pressure is presently shown to have more of an influence on the
gfs. However, the london gfs ens now show that kind of operational
chart to be a fair old cold outlier on that date! Something more south-
westerly and milder is suggested by most members. Quite a pattern
change coming.

Building up nicely for a pattern change. After a short-lived
northerly, the high looks like it will sink into the continent
allowing Atlantic air over the top. The end of the winter - for now!
