Satellite view from the noaa19 overpass at 0450z. Black dot is the volcanic
heat source, with the ash plume streaming eastwards. An arrow points to the
heat source.

I think it's showing on yesterdays terra MODIS as
well:

http://rapidfire.sci.gsfc.nasa.gov/s...set=Iceland.20
10104.terra.250m

Roughly center right at the bottom black dot and dark gray squiggle
to the right. I suspect that is shadow on the cloud as the land goes
dark when the cloud disappears.

The aqua one is
clearer:

10104.aqua.250m

Belgian airspace closed at 16.30 Belgian time

Planes taking off from Brussels Airport pass over the area where I live when
the wind is from between north and east, as today
http://weather.noaa.gov/weather/current/EBBR.html . A plane passed over at
about 15.40 and another about 20 minutes ago at 16.30 but there have been
none since then.

Probably miltary and government aircraft.

If it really was volcanic ash, why not fly airliners below the ash cloud
at 10,000 feet?
