Another sunny day. I could say this is getting boring but I can't get enough
of this type of weather at this most beautiful time of year. Total sunshine for this month so far has now passed 200 hours. With more sunny days to come could this be a record for April in the making? A max of 15.3°C today after a overnight low of 3.7°C. A breeze helped keep the temperature from dropping too low. There was an air frost yesterday (21st), the first one of the month (and hopefully the last) with -1.2°C. No rain since the 7th, everything very dry but the grass keeps growing like mad. The dandelions seem more abundant and bigger than ever. Here are a few daily sunshine totals for the last week or so: 8th 9.85 9th 11.20 10th 10.69 11th 10.38 12th 11.12 13th 11.20 14th 0.65 15th 12.90 16th 12.28 17th 13.08 18th 13.11 19th 12.32 20th 12.02 21st 12.87 22nd 13+ Only the 14th spoils to continuity of sunny days. A cool evening, maybe another frost to come. (19:15), 10.6°C, RH 54%, DP 2.1°C, 1016 hPa (F), Wind 5 mph SSW. _____________________ Nick Otter Valley, Devon 83 m amsl http://www.ottervalley.co.uk |

Dutch forecaster Jan Visser notes on his website http://www.janvissersweer.nl/ that De Bilt in the Netherlands is also heading for 200+ hours sunshine this month. If there are more than 221 hours sunshine, this will be one of the 10 sunniest Aprils in the record going back to 1901. If 2010 is in the top ten, 4 of those 10 sunniest Aprils will have occurred since 2003: Sunniest April at De Bilt since 1901 was 2007 - 284 hours; 6th sunniest 2003 - 228 hours; 7th sunniest 2009 - 227 hours. It will give something for our hysterical media to wet themselves over, now the volcanic ash cloud has gone elsewhere. |
