I wonder if I might be rather cheeky. Mike was always so helpful with
weather forecasts and it's yet another thing I will miss.

Is anyone else willing to stick their neck out and give me an idea of what
to expect from Tues to Friday next week in Bruges? We're off on a short
break and have never been there before. I do realise this is strictly a uk
group but I know there is at least one regular poster from Belgium so
thought it was worth an ask. If no one replies, then I'll just take sun
cream AND an umbrella.

IF there is an High over Greenland:
Bright but muggy wth lots of marked cloud stiations. Get hold of a
pair of polarising sun-glasses. Rain will be a major problem for small
regions suffering flash foods.

The feeling will be disorienting for people of a certtain age, with
those who have a tendency to gout, arthritis and leg cramps being out
of sorts. If that poses a problem, e-mail me.

Bruges isn't very far from SE England, so the Met Office's forecast for
that region of the UK should give a fair guide:

UK Outlook for Tuesday 6 Jul 2010 to Thursday 15 Jul 2010:
Northern and western parts should remain fairly unsettled and often
windy, with rain or showers at times. Some drier and brighter weather
can also be expected though, especially to the east of high ground.
Temperatures will be generally around normal here. Elsewhere it should
be more settled with mostly fine and dry weather, although cloudier
conditions with occasional rain are also likely at times. Southeast
England may remain dry throughout, but there is a low risk of some
thundery showers towards the weekend. Temperatures are expected to be
warm or very warm. Beyond the weekend, the outlook continues similar,
with the more changeable conditions in northwestern parts and the best
of the dry, bright and warm weather towards the southeast.

Based on that, I'd say it's likely to be mainly warm and sunny, but with
a risk of thundery showers on the Friday.

If your French or Flemish is up to it, I imagine that Colin could
provide a link to the relevant Belgian weather service forecast.

If you ask again next Sunday or Monday, it should be possible to be more
confident, as your trip is currently still six to nine days away.

Belgian Met Office forecast map in English here
http://www.meteo.be/meteo/view/en/21...in+detail.html

It only goes up to Monday just now. Some sunshine - perhaps the odd
shower - and fairly warm on Monday (21 to 23°C). Keep watching the
NewsGroup - I'll post an update later in the weekend.

You will like Brugge as long as the weather is dry and fine. Please
don't hesitate to e-mail me if you want any information - about the
weather or anything else. NewsGroup "Reply to Sender" address is
valid.

Seems a reasonable assessment on the basis of the SE England forecast
you quoted. In a hesitant westerly situation, we are of course even
more sheltered from any disturbed weather than SE England.

provide a link to the relevant Belgian weather service forecast.

Yes. I will keep an eye on this and post again later in the weekend.

Hmmm. I note that the professional and the would be model gazers
forcaster's, have been conspicuous by thier absence on this one. However
IMHO as a gentleman and subscriber to Old Moore's almanac I shall endeavour
to give an uncannily astute forecast.

Warmish to very warm with the chance of a thunder storms around Wednesday.

I thank you

Based on that I'd say its going to be warm and sunny or rain or not as
the case may be.

How much do those consultants get paid?
Don't tell me that wearing a dress and standing in the Blue Peter
Garden in the pouring rain is a job qualification. I know.

Thanks Colin. I emailed you yesterday. I'm hoping it's not quite as warm as
it is currently here (Surrey) as we intend quite a lot of walking but we'll
see.

I have your e-mail and I have just sent you a reply. It looks as if
it will be pretty warm again over here later in the week - though
perhaps not quite 34°C as in Brussels yesterday !

Here is the promised update:

Tuesday - Dry with sunny periods and some cloud; 20 to 22°C
Wednesday - Sunny and very warm; 23 to 26°C
Thursday and Friday - Still very warm but slightly less settled:
sunshine and some cloud with a chance of thundery showers; 22 to 28°C

Looks good - but bring the sun cream ! Belgian Met Office forecast
for this past week was very accurate. It was correctly forecasting
last Friday's brief heatwave even at the beginning of the week.
Let's hope they are right for the coming week as well.

I hope you enjoy your trip over here.
