Hello
I know this is "old", but up to now I've been running this software on my PC without any problems. I am A fully fledged VP2 wireless owner too. The reason I am running both. My weather station for all intents and purposes is running with VP2 wireless on Windows 7 - installed last week and everything is fine - downloading and performing just as on previous platform on Windows XP. Davis WM2 and weatherlink 4.0 had been working perfectly too on windows XP. I use this for recording solely grass minimum temperatures as it gives reading to 1 decimal place and is an excellent way of checking on number of ground frosts for submission to COL. Anyway the upshot is I have installed the weatherlink 4 software and that's fine. I can see all my data up until last weekend 10 July. BUT I can't communicate with the WM2 monitor for some reason. It's asking me to check the serial ports and none appear to be working. I've done all the checks with loop back and it can't find the loopback either. Can someone please remind me of the procedure, or is this problem related to the new Operating system - WIndows 7? seems a bit coincidental to me, but why would the install work and not the comm ports?? Any help appreciated Thanks Rob |

Any help appreciated Thanks Rob Are you using a Davis Weather Envoy wireless data logger? Ihad similar problems last year, and with a lot of to-ing and fro-ing of E mails between Davis and myself, having said that the Weather Envoys are robust and rarely develop faults, that's where the problem truned out to be. I had to buy a new one. Does your console still display OK? CK |

Rob
I'm back from holiday now (well, I will be tomorrow 'officially') and over the next 2-3 days will start catching up with any emails that were for my personal attention. Without further investigation I don't know for sure what your WL404/ Win7 problem might be. I've not come across anyone trying to use a WL version as old as v4 under Win7. Your problem might be some fundamental conflict between v4 and Win7 or - possibly more likely - some sort of permissions problem, which are common under Vista/Win7. Can you see your COM port under Win7's Device Manager? Is the COM port definitely set to the right baud rate for your 7862 logger (which I think is the one you're using - the correct setting would probably be 2400). And you very possibly need to be running under an admin login. But is there any reason why you can't just set up a separate station in the WL version that you do have running under Win7 and just download the WMII data into that? The only thing that you'd need to be careful of is that you have the correct station selected when doing a download. (But I think if you try to use a station that's set to a different port and station type then it will just throw an error.) CK, please - let's not add to the confusion that Davis rather encourage with their product naming. A Weather Envoy is a VP/VP2 console without the LCD screen and buttons - the Weatherlink logger is something different. And an Envoy console still needs a separate Weatherlink logger. In any event, I think that what Rob has here is a WMII station with a 7862 logger though ICBW. John Dann www.weatherstations.co.uk |

John Dannwww.weatherstations.co.uk OK, John but if you remember you gave guidance when I reported my problems on USW last year. My console was part and parcel of the Davis Pro 2, and the Weather Envoy was extra, and merely a wireless device/datalogger which connected via USB to my computer. It was the wireless device which went faulty, and this was referred to (and bears the name of) Weather Envoy. Sorry if it's confusing... CK |

Not trying to be picky here but people do look back at these forum archives for help with troubleshooting, so it's important that the info here is as clear and accurate as possible. Your Envoy-based unit actually comprises two separate parts - the Envoy console itself, which as per my previous post is functionally like a standard console but missing the screen and buttons, and then _also_ a Weatherlink logger. You have to specify and purchase these two items separately. At some point in the past you will have fitted the logger to the Envoy console unit to allow the Envoy to talk to a PC. It's true that once the logger is installed then it effectively becomes part of the Envoy unit, at least until you de-install the logger, and that the Envoy is not much use on its own without a logger. But what I'm trying to preempt here is the misapprehension - which quite a few people have - that all you need to connect a VP2 system to a PC is an Envoy console. This is categorically not the case - you must also purchase a separate Weatherlink logger. JGD |
