Default Time to call it a day!

Although i have rarely contributed to this group over the last ten years or
so i have enjoyed reading the posts and learnt a lot from it, but its time
to call it a day.

Sadly now its seems to have become a place for a number of folks with egos
larger than your average tropical CB to rip the crap out of anyone that they
see fit and mostly for no apparent reason.

I thought the group was uk.sci.weather so perhaps some have confused it for
uk.sci.******s ?

Thanks to all those who have posted constructive and infiormative stuff over
the years, Bernard Burton, Will Hand, Southend Keith, Colin Youngs, Darren
Presscott to name just a few, it was a pleasure being part of it all.but
lifes to short for all the crap on here so now is the time for me to leave.

Have fun and i hope you get your dream winter Will !

Hi Robbie,
To be honest I agree with you. I have a young daughter and during
spells of exciting weather I used to show her the posts to get some
idea of the excitment of a weather "event". Sadly there is so much bad
language and vitriol that there is no way I can just let her browse
the posts. You are right that this group used to have something to do
with weather and science. I would be genuinely intimidated to give
away my full name and address as some of the language used is far
beyond what is acceptable.
So see ya and take care.

Hi Robbie, nice to hear from you. Sorry you're going but all the best.
Dreams are part of life, even if they never come completely true. But maybe
one day ....

Cheers,

Will

Robbie

I fully sympathise with you and regret that (1) some ways of accessing the
group do not have the facility of killfiling, and (2) even with killfiling,
completely removing the obnoxious crap that certain individuals spew out (I
am thinking of two who are particularly active at present) is impossible
because a number of otherwise respectable contributors insist on replicating
the garbage in the course of carrying out bunfights in full public view.

They do not seem to realise that by not ignoring the crap they are very
effectively destroying the value of the group.

You just complained about bad language to a man who used the word
"******s". Do you grasp the word irony.

Ridge Runner, I agree 100% with your comments about some of the posts on
here but I think it's all part of the knockabout of online life. The
immature, the ego-trippers, the bad-mannered and the downright fools will
always be with us, and perhaps online life would be less interesting if we
couldn't express ourselves robustly at times, though of course there's never
any excuse for bad language. But as you yourself acknowledged, there are a
lot of valuable, informative and sometimes humorous posts on here and I
can't help feeling that if you give up on it you'll be throwing out the baby
with the bathwater. But best of luck, though, with whatever you decide to
do.

I have to say Robbie that I am sad to hear you say this _ I don't
personally even notice the abuse as I am selective about the posts I
read - you get to know the authors you can trust!

I cannot imagine a day when I don't read the weather related news
here, it has become part of my daily routine, sad I know!

Good luck, but try to stay in touch, even as a lurker!

Exactly right, IMO. If anyone doesn't like anything someone else says,
either reply and be prepared for the reply to that, or ignore it.

Hi, Steve,
I read the lot, saddos and goodos. It's better than the soaps
sometimes!
As you say, it's easy to spot the weirdos and ignore if you're not up
for a smile.
After all, you'd cross the road in real life wouldn't you! This isn't
real life and I can't take them seriously.
Still some excellent posters on here I just wish some of the valued
ones would return.
Looking cooler next few days around these parts.

Problem with newsgroups is that they can't be easily moderated.

I prefer to lurk these days on TWO and Netweather which are moderated,
therefore a reduction in white noise.
I come back here now and again to look at posts from certain posters whom I
do have a lot of respect for.

Jim.
