The extraordinary cold spell that computer models predicted, has now
diminished to nothing more than we would have called -in the days we had
perspective- a cold snap. We've had the models show, an easterly - without
an easterly and a devastating phantom low that seems to have been exorcised.
All in all I can only conclude that the models are 78£$ing useless and to
change their friggin minds only six days away only proves this fact

I wonder how long the media will continue using "cold spell or snap" for - 3
days, 6, days , 10 days, 30 days* ?!.. and also how long before they lose
interest in it all.

Jon.

* and no, that's not a forecast

-----------------------
It makes me wonder if the models are always as variable as these have
been or they just appear so because more people are scrutinising them in
a cold spell - a bit akin to when bird watchers assemble to see a rare
bird other rare birds are seen in the same location!
Lawrence does have a point though, there have been some horrendous
changes at short notice. No criticism of the forecasters interpretation
though because it has been bitterly cold and they have said all along
that snow could fall almost anywhere.

About as long as they think it will sell more papers or get more viewers to
switch to their channel I would think.

I dread to think of the reaction when people look beyond T+144 in this
morning's 00Z runs along with the lack of a deep low on Tue/Wed...

Not the cold spell Richard but the waste of that cold spell with so little
snow to be had. It always gets me when someone displays passionate
disapointment about being led to believe something and then seeing in
reality the opposite, its called 'Throwing Your Toys out of the Pram". Its
as if certain people have to display this not to be fazed stiff upper
persona.

The models have shown a screaming easterly and a potentially devastating low
for most of the week. As I look out of my window the broken thin cloud if
anything is hardly moving.

No when all tallied up there won't be much to remember factually only in
deluded minds of the delusional.

I think there's been more than just a wee bit of snow in North East
England & Eastern Scotland from this cold spell.
