out" when it clearly isn't so? They have been doing it all morning on

Probably because they've never been in a whiteout situation before.
The same reporter however may well find themselves in actual whiteout
conditions later when the wind picks up - and, more's the pity (not),
they get stranded for a day or two.

I was wondering why on BBC News channel last night they were telling
me the temperature could drop to -7C when at the time it was -11C in
Aboyne and elsewhere. (not to mention -8C in my back garden - but I'll
forgive them for ignoring that).

An actual whiteout does not require wind nor falling snow. Visibility is not
a factor either. It just needs low cloud and total snow cover so that light
reflection makes earth and sky look the same.

I`ve been in a white out on several ski holidays ,one in the
cairngorms ,it is truly truly frightening ,you cant even see your
feet,the guy I was skiing with was physically sick ,sort of motin
sickness in reverse.In Aviemore they stupidly turned off the lifts so
you couldnt even get down by listening to the sound of the lifts and
following them.(I hope a person from the aviemore lift company reads
this ) All you could do was wait it out (45mins) ,If you moved you
were in danger of getting lost or worse dropping off a cliff.
So this reporter is talking crap.

I've walked in mountains all my life and I have never been in a white-out.
In a white-out you will not know whether you are on your head or standing
there will be white all round up/down/left/right and you will not be able to
see more than a metre. Almost had that in the Cairngorms but I could just
see where to go, which was just as well as there was an ice cliff 100 metres
away!

Some people haven't a clue.

I've experienced something very similar once in the Alps, when the
blowing snow started coming from behind me faster than I was skiing
forwards. Looking down at my feet with the blizzard rushing forwards
my brain suddenly told me I was going backwards and total
disorientation set in. Fortunately I was only a few yards from a
restaurant and a chocolat chaud!

It's as if it's never snowed in the UK before. I find it all laughable.
It's snowing, there might be some disruption, get over it.
