Still over 30 cm of snow, -5.5 last night, and nothing moving here.

For descriptions of the chaos the online Dundee Courier (that most
esteemed organ) is full of tales of everyday folk getting stuck in
their cars.

I have a collection of snow photographs towards the end of my album at:

I'm told by others it works.

Tried to dig my own car out of the snow in Dundee today. Gave up. I
estimate about 90% of cars in Dundee are still stuck in side roads. Only
a limited bus service on priority routes. All schools still closed.

Roof collapse in Dundee city centre - see
http://www.thecourier.co.uk/News/Dun...g-consort.html

Also snow brought down a tree on top of a care home in Brought Ferry.

Spectacular footage of the snow lightning - the lightning was striking
the wind-turbines at the Michelin tyre factory - see

My

gutters are in danger too.

After three hours the car is free and down by Lundie church hall, so IF
there isn't too much more snow and IF I can get up to the Coupar Angus
road I'm quite confident of at least getting to Kingsway Tesco tomorrow
and stocking up on red wine and bird food. (Please tell me Tesco is
still open ... I never thought I'd look so much forward to shopping!)

I think I don't really understand lightning in snow. Presumably the
clouds above were cumulonimbus, and there must have been enough
convective energy to force ice up and down the cloud? And that energy
still came from the temperature difference between the top and bottom
of the cloud, so even though it was very cold at the surface, it was
much, much colder at the top? Or is this too much of a simplification?
Or just plain wrong?

As far as I know Kingsway Tesco is open - not that I can get near it.
I'm only about 100 yards from a main road but that might as well be 10
miles. Supposedly there is a snow plough scheduled for tomorrow morning
before the binmen try an get up the street. I suspect neither turn up
and we'll try and dig out ourselves again later. It's really horrible
thick wet snow which is now freezing. Even just getting about 8 inches
off the car roof took major effort!

Still very few cars on the roads and even they slide to a halt every
time a big snow shower comes through.

I think, paradoxically, it CAN be easier to get out in the country.
Clean snow, much more space to manoeuvre, and if I skid I don't have to
worry about smashing into my neighbour.

My plan for later tomorrow morning is either to go to Kingsway or
Riverside via Kingsway, both via Birkhill and the A923. I'm optimistic.
I hope so because I'm almost out of organic sultanas for my blackies.

I'm like Alan. I am supposed to have been in Edinburgh two days
ago. The main road is clear of snow, but although neighbours
with 4x4/fwd/snow tyres have been able to get out and in again,
I haven't a hope (rwd/ordinary tyres) of getting up the slight
slope. No hope of a plough; it's garden bins, not household
bins, tomorrow so they will almost certainly not bother.

No new snow overnight last night.

More snow overnight, now 37 cm of level snow, life grinding to a halt.

We're going to try a supermarket run today, but it's snowing again.

Thanks to everyone for the kind words. I've added more today at:

Watch those icicles grow day by day.

We're still stuck today. Dug the car out again but got stuck in a drift
one way, dug ourselves out, and couldn't make it up the hill. The
outside world is still cut off from Lundie. Apparently things are
nearly as bad in the Big City (a.k.a. Dundee).
