BAA spokesman this morning started at 5" in an hour then increased it to 6" for better effect. Jim That concurs with the 3 inch my son reported at T5 on Saturday I think the problem wasn't the depth of snow, the runway was clear, it was the frozen up parking stands that has been the problem. Still I'd like a Journo to query the BAA spokesman on where he got the 5" to 6" inch figure from based on the offical SYNOPs. But of course I imagine such SYNOP information would never make near a Journo... ;-) R. |

With an extra half a million pounds invested in equipment this year, Heathrow’s airside department run constant checks of runway and taxiway areas, applying de-icing and of course clearing any snow and debris away. Key Heathrow snow facts: * Heathrow was the only major airport in the UK to not close last winter * There are over 60 vehicles and 50 staff keeping the runways clear * An extra £500,000 has been invested this year in snow-fighting technology" |

Richard Send the troops in! Actually couldn't they just send out all the stuck passengers with brushes and shovels and that'll sort the problem... Surely the UKMO should have a RED warning, specifically for the Heathrow area, to "TAKE ACTION". I suspect that BAA will say they were "Prepared, but no one told them to "take action"... R. |
