That curly occlusion appeared on the Bracknell FSXX a couple of days ago. It
looked really strange but it has come off! What has caused it? It could be a
kind of thermally forced low I guess as ascents have been unstable, bit like
a pseudo polar low maybe? Any thoughts Martin?

Just driven to Brighton and back today and encountered snow flurries
over both the South and North Downs which created that powdery effect
on both the M23 and M25 in a couple of places. Not a lot, but was
notable. Temperature was 7°C at Brighton Marina, 3°C over most the
Downs and back to 5°C here at Southend-on-Sea. Reading off car are
generally about 1°C higher than actual s.

Currently 2.8°C on my Davis @ 16:45

.... certainly the cloud structure at one point became very convective -
I did wonder if some more vigorous instability would be released due to
local Channel temperatures and we might have got some heavier PPN ...
which with the wet bulbs at the time would have given us a couple of cm
of snow (rather than the 'snizzle' & rain we did get). Without access to
high-resolution diagnostics (model tephis especially) I wouldn't want to
speculate too much on the structure that gave rise to the feature - but
as you write, well forecast that far ahead.
