Is the following explanation from netweather post correct?

No choice for him, Phillip Avery, Tomasz Schafernaker and at least one
other. After a re-interview process they were deemed not to have
sufficient team-member skills to appear on television and have been
moved to the role of "duty weather manager" providing forecasts for the
others (presumably managers don't need team-member skills) in a
cost-cutting exercise (BBC broadcast meteorologists' salaries have until
now been topped up with allowances depending on what broadcasts they are
qualified to do, so cutting down on the number of people who appear on
television cuts down on the wage bill).

Now that he's gone and BBC weather presentation is pretty well
information-free, can we please bring on the topless
weatherpresenterettes?

Nice pic at link.

http://www.creativereview.co.uk/cr-b...loudy-language

Rob's final forecast began: "After 20 years of doing this, you'd think
I'd get it right by now. Well, here's one last go."

A typically well-crafted two minutes later, it ended: "Waiting behind me
is the wild week ahead. And if you've been listening to me, thank you."

I have been listening to Rob for some time. A Cloudy Language features
the words of several weather forecasters and was originally inspired by
ITV presenter Siān Lloyd's pronouncement that "Tomorrow we'll be
speaking mainly a cloudy language." But Rob has always been the master.

It certainly is. His forecasts were always informative and done
professionally.

Unlike the new "weather forcaster" on BBC midlands today called Des
Colman, who looks like he'll be rapping the weather forecast before too
long.

As per this example, he's more showman than presenter.

He was idiosyncratic and despite slowly morphing into a cross between
a badger and Prince Charles, really should be considered to continue.
Not quite sure how team-related skills are correlated with ability to
present a forecast per comments above. Bill Giles was apparently a
nasty piece of work as a manager of the team and still turned out a
good forecast.

If I wanted to keep, say, 5 forecasters it would probably be McElwee,
Gibbs, Avery, Betts and Willetts - in no particular order (although I
think Peter Gibbs is the best of the lot).
