Default Stormy potential Scotland Monday ... i.e. tomorrow!

I was on the Isle of Lewis and planning to get the ferry back
to the mainland on Monday or Tuesday. On seeing the amber
warnings and reading the forecast I rebooked on the Sunday
sailing (breaking the Sabbath, tut, tut) and came home last
night.

Irony of ironies. The Ullapool-Stornoway ferry, on which I
travelled, is one of only two CalMac ferries not to have been
cancelled or disrupted so far.

Mostly blue skies and very strong winds here in Fochabers, but
outside temperature allegedly 17.8șC.

Stormy day here in Aberfeldy. My wee wooden office feels like it is
about to lift off! I would imagine we have had a gale. Pouring and
very windy, very noisy with lots of debris around. Attempting to make
it to gym later, depending on how the road is. 98mph down the road at
Glen Ogle is no surprise.

Hi Brian, very benign down here on Dartmoor. Just a F6 at most.
I noticed Cairngorm summit was reporting a mean of 65Kts earlier with a
temperature of +3C .
Brrrrr, bit of wind chill up there!

Thanks for the report.

correction 105mph

73mph at Strathallan airport is quite something (near Auchterarder).
Blimey.

73mph at Auchterarder is some wind for a inland lowland site in May.

I am reminded by this of a storm that affected the very far north
of Scotland in June, 5-10 years ago. Winds reached 100 mph.
Does anybody know the exact date of this or any more details?
--

... 12th/13th June 2000?

" A DEEPENING Atlantic depression which tracked north-eastwards during the
12th and 13th became exceptionally deep for the season, its lowest central
PRESSURE of 968 mbar ( J. Minhinick in his email says 964 mbar) being the
lowest in the region since June 1944. WINDS averaged 40 to 50 knots for a
time in the north & west of Scotland with GUSTS around or above 70 knots
(e.g. Lerwick, Shetland = 70 kn; Stornoway, Lewis = 72 kn/highest June
gust this station since 12th June, 1973 in record length since 1961.) -
unprecedented in June (apart from isolated gusts in exposed areas due to
instability features). Fallen trees blocked roads, power lines were
brought down and a North Sea oil rig was set adrift in the Norwegian
sector. "

That might have been it, but it seems a little too long ago but
my memory may not be correct of course

The cold front came through here just before 1200, hefty rain and a
few degrees temp drop that has since recovered. Wind also recovered
froma low of F5 to currently about F7.

And at 1pm here.
Pretty lively as it went through with heavy driving rain and some
gusty winds this afternoon too. Ground litrered with leaves, twigs
and even a few small branches.
But it's been reasonably sunny too, so it's far from unpleasant out there.
