Default rain all day ??

That looks like a pretty big gap in the forecast rain over England coming
up,
just like the big snowstorm forecasts we often get...

0.8mm of drizzle here so far but then we're used to precipitation gaps
here. Could still catch a fair bit on the second wave I reckon.

Mid Suffolk Note

A Deluge witnessed in Bury St. Edmunds at 1500Z for about 20 mins.

Water ran in through roof of Sainsburys where we were temporaily marooned
and car parks etc flooded. I would have reckoned around 10mm fell.

Of course no surprise to drive home 8 miles to east to note it was still dry
under the larger trees. It seems that not only showers miss me, but more
general rain areas also!
The radar showed a steady decay of that patch of ppn. as it slid past my
patch.

Incidently yesterdays 'event' did drop 2.2 mm on me, though sky cleared mid
afternoon and no showers passed over me later.

This month I have noted 18.3mm up to 0900 this morning

Yes, that gap passed right over here - but it has now been followed by
some actual rain.

The sort of dismal day that one really shouldn't get in summer in
Southampton. Thought we would get off lightly when it seemed to clear
at lunchtime but now we seem to be in the middle of a deluge... with
almost dusk-like light levels, it feels like October, not June.

A true stinker of a week, after things seemed to be getting better on
Monday and Tuesday - seems the plague of the southerly jetstream,
which has created at least one really, really bad summer month every
year from 2007 to 2010 inclusive, has struck again. This sort of setup
almost seems more common than your bog-standard zonal type these days:
contemporary UK climate doesn't do things by halves, it's drought then
deluge. Early next week also seems worse than was indicated a few days
ago too.

I'm hoping the high that tries to build in a week's time does do it,
otherwise June 2011 will go down as one of the worst summer months,
though TBH quite normal for the period since 2007. Summer is almost
turning into a season to dread, not anticipate - I'm grateful I'm
spending about three weeks of it outside the UK this year :-)

I know it's been raining in the south, the newsreaders on the BBC
were asking when is it going to stop raining?
A little bit of rain and they think they're hard done by, those BBC
employees who re-locate to Media City in Salford are going to get
a nasty weather surprise I can tell you

Got to agree with you on that one Col.
If it doesn't happen in London/SE Engalnd it doesn't happen.
The presenters of the News must have bird brains.
On the other hand they are just personalizing and ad libbing,
which is encouraged in their job up to a point.

Another 12 mm here today, same as yesterday.
