uninspiring long range outlook

Looking at the Met Office outlook to the next 30 days suggests the weather is set to carry on with the cool, unsettled theme. Unless there is another weather regime flip in August this will probably go down as another mediocre summer. Arguably much better than a serious, prolonged drought though. I'm off to Sutherland for a walking holiday at the end of July, so hoping (but not expecting) for some settled conditions around then. Historically, that's not the best time for the NW Highlands:-( By quite a margin the best months, on average, are May and June. In The NW Highlands the July/August average rainfall is typically 30-50 percent higher than the May/June average -- Norman Lynagh Tideswell, Derbyshire 303m a.s.l. |

The rainfall in NW Scotland last month was at a record high. Regards, Roger |

In The NW Highlands the July/August average rainfall is typically 30-50 percent higher than the May/June average I know, the only reason I am going in July is because it is a scheduled holiday through a walking group. In the past when I have gone alone and have just organized it all myself, I have gone during the period late May to mid June. There is one advantage to going in July, the landscape will be a nice lush green colour as opposed to when I have gone up there in May and the landscape can still look brown and barren from above, the new plant growth having not come through yet. |
