Not everyone uses a newsreader that offers a killfile facility. That's the adult way of dealing with people you don't get along with, rather than acting like a big cry-baby and essentially cutting off your nose to spite your face. I'm disappointed that you should have written that after I'd said that you were one of the more constructive posters to this newsgroup. Please don't prove me wrong. Well quite. See my reply to Will. This was just a Usenet spat, but they can spiral out of control if you're not careful and become feuds, and I don't do feuds :) Good. That sounded more like the Col that I know. :) -- John Hall "The power of accurate observation is commonly called cynicism by those who have not got it." George Bernard Shaw |

You only burn dead - or 'well seasoned' wood which has lost its capacity for taking CO2 out the atmosphere - so you HAVE to burn it to replenish the Co2 loss. If you don't the trees and most other vegetation die - and we freeze to death. I obviously hadn't thought it through. But thank you, I now feel virtuous. Thanks a lot for that. Cheers me up a bit,am a cold winter man despite my great age and decrepitude. Always celebrate a cold spell in winter by walking (hobbling) half a mile to get a pint of real ale. That is what we formed the group for, eaons ago, i.e the education of us all. Anyway may have a hobble down to the Winsome Worm anyway. Incidently I gor the impression of La Nina's demise from the press and the ecmwf seasonal. Cheers Paul --------------------------- That's why you guys formed it and that's why I and many others, joined in so many years ago. We thank you for that. We have a learned a lot. Perhaps some have lost their way and from time to time and of late, it has become like a close knit family spending too long a Christmas together. Dave |

You might think that I'm splitting hairs, but most ISPs will only act over abuse /of/ the Net. Abuse /on/ the Net has always been common and almost never acted against, though some might think that's a pity. (Though calling someone a "nutter" seems pretty harmless compared to some of the stuff I've seen over the years.) I haven't just made the above up to suit my own argument. See for example: http://www.cybernothing.org/faqs/net-abuse-faq.html#1.3 which has been in existence since the 1990s, for a fairly authoritative definition of what is meant by "Net abuse". -- John Hall "The power of accurate observation is commonly called cynicism by those who have not got it." Cheers (in shame) Paul You do realise I was pulling your leg a little :-) I quite fancy the idea of a woodburner, but retro-fitting one in a standard semi without a chimney would likely be too impractical. A few years ago I cut back several Buddleia bushes and ended up with a huge stack of branches which took several months to get rid of (via the council's brown wheelie bin). I couldn't help wishing at the time that I had a way of harnessing the stored energy in the wood to heat the house rather than wastefully throwing it away. |
