Dunno if anybody else keeps an eye on this station ,,but according to todays

By the end of the month, there should be the first glimpses of twilight in the southern half of the sky around midday. http://sveaspitzbergen.livecam360.com/flash/main.php On the subject of webcams, anyone seen the folk of iceland taking to the natural hot springs, with snow on the surrounding hills! http://www.inspiredbyiceland.com/ice...ve/#blaa-lonid Regards... January temperatures can drop to seriously low bone-chilling digits, BUT, they do come under the influence of the remnants of the Gulf Stream. As such, even at their high latitude, temperatures can be much higher than they would otherwise be. The sea lanes from the south remain mostly navigable all year round, unlike the northern side which becomes ice-bound. Regards... David Allan. |

Nice volcanic profile from Hekla as well and see Geysir go. http://eldgos.mila.is/hekla/ -- George in Epping www.eppingweather.co.uk www.winter1947.co.uk |

RonB If there is no cloud, you should begin to see the first signs of twilight to the south from late morning to early afternoon. Didn't actually see the webcam at lunchtime today, but I have noted previously that the light on the horizon ccan usually be spotted any time now. Then, gradually, it will go from 24 hour darkness to 24 hour daylight... must be a strange place to live. Regards... David Allan. |

Yes, and the period that the day/night duration seems 'normal' to us is pretty brief, just a few weeks centred on each equinox. -- Col Bolton, Lancashire 160m asl |
