![]() I know Paul used to post on here for many years, so many will be sad to hear he passed away last night :-( It was announced on his website today:- http://www.rutnet.co.uk/pp/gold/viewgold.asp?id=7 .... Very sad: Paul was a stalwart of the early days of this ng, and I was most pleased to put the entry relating to 'his' High in the FAQ. As others have noted, this is a fitting tribute to him. He seems to have kept his interest in 'the weather' right to the end which is some comfort. But we will always think of him when that winter high sits over Switzerland. Keith (Southend) htto://www.southendweather.net "Weather Home & Abroad" |

I would like to add my name to those who remember him, and are
saddened by this news. I will always be grateful for the help he gave me with my research. Cheers, Alastair. |

I certainly remember much of the banter that went on in the early days of the group. Oh dear, my sincere condolences to family and friends. I echo your thoughts Andy, he was NG gold. -- Wendy Tinley Sheffield |

Cheers, Alastair. A couple of weeks ago I looked at his webside and I thought "how long do you continue this work?". It was not work, but a way of life that gave him great satisfaction, I guess. May he rest in peace. Sytze Stel, Soest, The Netherlands |

This is the present: "The Bartlett High", in honour of Paul Bartlett, a luminary of this ng, who used to put his experience of forecasting to the test by publishing a reasoned winter forecast for all to see. As Les Crossan has noted (also a stalwart of this ng), this has come to be regarded as a 'slug' - nothing moves it, not even extracting a pair of dividers and skewering the said beast as it sits dominating any particular synoptic chart! http://weatherfaqs.org.uk/node/117 |

What it doesn't seem to say going by that quotation, is where the Bartlett High is located. Someone mentioned Switzerland, but my own - possibly fallible - memory suggests that the classic location was Iberia. -- John Hall "The power of accurate observation is commonly called cynicism by those who have not got it."
