Heat-related deaths in Gran Canaria
The African air mass, which I reported last week has brought heatwave conditions to
most of mainland Spain, spead to the Canary Islands over the weekend. Two elderly British tourists have died of heat exhaustion and two others have been hospitalised after hiking in the interior of Gran Canaria in temperatures approaching 41C. I don't know if they were aware of the warnings in force in the area, and I mean no disrespect, but sadly I can't help thinking of the old song about mad dogs and Englishmen. Such an avoidable tragedy. |
