So it's not been that long ago at number 3 spot. Will 2012 get anywhere
near the top 3, Len, if it rains 3 inches for the last 6 months of this
year?

Not really representative but for interest, last year, 2011, we recorded
2538.0 mm, 131% of our nine year average of 1936.0 mm.

The 1st 6 months of 2012 here (Penzance) have seen 462.8mm of rain, 84% of the 1981-2010 normal. June did not make up for the exceptionally dry 1st 3 months which saw approx 40% of normal rainfall.

In contrast 2001 saw more rain (491mm) in just the 1st 3 months! The 1st 6 months of this year are the 5th driest in my 21 years of records.

So a very wet June, (though June '93, '97', '98 & 2007 were all wetter) but a dry year so far.

Hi, Alan,
Wow, that's proper rain. Wonder if you're the wettest place that reports
regularly on here?

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Due to the dry Feb and March, the total rain for the first 6 months of
2012 is not so remarkable.
England and Wales data back to 1766:
487.6 mm this year, average 395.6 mm. That's 122%.

So to beat the record wet of 1284.9 mm in 1872, we need 797.3 mm (31.4
ins).
That is 133 mm (5.24 ins) per month for the next 6 months.

Not very likely IMO.

Our recorded annual rainfall since August 2002:-

2003 1541.8
2004 1990.8
2005 1766.4
2006 2022.0
2007 1745.2
2008 2068.2
2009 2128.6
2010 1583.6
2011 2528.6

2012 832.6 so far and still raining.
