I noted in Mail on Sunday 19th Aug that Mr J Kettley mentioned that on Wed 15th a band of torrential rain had swept across the whole of Britain For me in mid Suffolk that was 0.1 mm. Little different for Wattisham near by.
The BBC One Show this week featured the difficulty of harvesting in Essex due to the continual rain, saying that this would increase food prices, though adding that this was partly due to the drought in America!
I have measured 2.2 mm of wet in the past two weeks and this again is similar to Wattisham I checked the summaries from Shoeburyness and Andewsfield in Essex. The latter did have rain on 14th -15th Aug but loads of dry days.. The harvest carried on at a pace in my area on most days. I realise that showers are hit and miss but I would reckon mostly the latter in this area.
It has been noteable that ther have been 7 days in last fortnight when a few spots only of rain have fallen here, whilst more significant precip is obvious quite close. Lat night the local BBC forecast stressed the heavy rain nearby that would reach all during the evening, maybe with thunder involved. Nothing at all here until a drizzly patch after midnight giving me some real rain to measure again. Total 0.5mm in 24 hrs to 0900Z this morning.
I'm surely going to get a decent shower today??
