I can't beat Guernsey but we had 29mm or rain here in the 18h to 6pm, now up to 30.5mm on the tipping bucket. Thunder and sheet lightning at times, too. Dave Fareham W. |

Guernsey Airport 39 mm. Not much has changed out there in the last 40 odd years then. I went out to Guernsey to rebuild the runway and aprons in July 1974, working night shift when the planes weren't around. It rained almost every ruddy night up the Christmas. Every one blamed me because (apparently) it never does that on Guernsey! The icing on the cake (literally!!!) was when it snowed on Good Friday and closed the airport for 4 hours. Guess which was the only company on the island with the necessary equipment to clear it all up, and like the rest of the island, we were on holiday and almost all our staff had returned to the mainland. jim, Northampton |
