He then said something like: "I ought to mention that the Met Office computer model is forecasting much more snow than that, but I'm pretty sure it's wrong." The following evening he was big enough to concede that he had been wrong and the model right. Of course that was in the early days, when the chance of the model being wrong - even at short range - was much higher than it is nowadays, so his scepticism was understandable. -- John Hall "Whenever people agree with me I always feel I must be wrong." So, basically, as I understand it from this thread, the low will be either extremely deep, or relatively shallow, move towards the north of the UK or along the English Channel, and bring a foot of snow or a few spots of rain? Almost. There looks like being one low that runs along the channel, and one that runs over northern UK. The southern one has a question mark over its depth - but it is looking as if it will deepen quite quickly when it gets going. If it is well developed as it runs up the channel it may well entrain sufficiently cold air to produce snow on its northern edge. A lot of ifs and buts, but these should reduce as the event nears. -- Freddie I have yet to read dire warnings of 100ft drifts and temperatures of -20C, in the Daily Express, so can I presume tomorrow's blizzards have been cancelled? |

Looks as if the low will run eastwards over SW England and up the English channel. Doesn't look like an explosive (or even implosive :-P) deepener any more - some limited deepening as it runs eastwards. Precipitation only likely to be of snow over mountains of south Wales. This will all be tonight and tomorrow morning, rather than Friday night. Friday afternoon and evening sees a trough moving south across the UK, which will introduce somewhat colder air and some short-lived northerlies. -- Freddie Bayston Hill Shropshire 102m AMSL http://www.hosiene.co.uk/weather/ https://twitter.com/#!/BaystonHillWx for hourly reports |

Have you not read the title of this thread? Ok, I admit that the actual word was not mentioned, but the implication is there especially for readers of certain tabloids. |

Sorry, I didn't equate heavy snow with blizzard - I guess I was being overly mindful of the definition. -- Freddie Bayston Hill Shropshire 102m AMSL http://www.hosiene.co.uk/weather/ https://twitter.com/#!/BaystonHillWx*for hourly reports* |
