Yup ,funny old cold spell this , my max in sunny Woodford Green ,suburban
Essex reached a tolerable 6.3c today ,and after a little rain this evening temps are climbing again from 4.2 at 6pm to 5.2 c now ,and still rising . Are we to look to only high ground above 200 meters and generally north of Staffordshire ?,yes I know it snowed in parts of Essex this afternoon, but that hardly justifies the dire warnings being bandied about at the moment, mind Piers has decamped to the Caingorms I hear..... I couldn't agree more Ron, today we had a sunny morning then a few heavy snow showers this afternoon quickly followed by heavy rain soon washing away any snow. Does a day like this really need a dire weather warning, it's becoming silly! Days like today are normal weather for the middle of Winter!!!! Temperature still continues to rise up to 4.1c now Graham (North Staffs) |

Those warnings are for 65 mph wind gusts, 1-2 inches of snow and icy roads. That isn't that unreasonable is it? |

RonB -------------------------------------------- It's not actually the Met Office that's been banding about dire warnings though is it Ron. They seem to be getting it right regionally and have only said rain, sleet and wet snow for most except in parts of the North where the snow has been.. Still I got enough flakes earlier this evening for it to be a "snow falling day" :-) Dvae |

Yes, it's windy but combining that with temperatures barely below average doesn't warrant the use of such extreme terminology. -- Graham P Davis, Bracknell, Berks. Feeling stressed and frustrated? Here yesterday at work at 85m there was some pretty heavy snow which arrived quickly, granted the roads had been gritted and it was rather wet so the snow was struggling to settle on them, however I know from experience that even at 160m where I live conditions can be quite different from Bolton town centre Higher still and they were probably pretty bad. -- Col Bolton, Lancashire 160m asl |

Out of interest, how much snow did you get during that rather dramatic end to the recent cold spell where there were reports of a foot of snow falling in a couple of hours trapping drivers on the M6? |

Ah yes I see what you mean there, they were talking about that yesterday evening on the TV forecast when the forecast maxes were in the 4-6C range. Below-average, but not bitterly cold. Those temperatures do seem quite mild considering it is supposed to be a screaming northerly. |
