Phil Guildford .... tying in with your observation Phil, we've just (09/0920Z FEB) had a short spell of rain and 'noisy rain' mixed (i.e., ice pellets if you're a Brit, sleet if you come from over the water): wandering about in the rain and it started to sound 'clattery' but the ice element was small and the pellets soon disintegrated. Must be in that 'sweet spot' where the vertical temperature profile is a bit convoluted, between the snowy-potential zone to the east and rain to the west. I'm not sure of my precise elevation, but I'd guess that it's more like 50m. For the last hour theres been steady light RA with some large snowflakes (50p size) mixed in. Phil Just after I posted my earlier message the rain turned sleety, but it wasn't long before it turned back to rain again. -- John Hall "Whenever people agree with me I always feel I must be wrong."
