Above 20 C about 20 mins ago but looks like a cold front has just come through now 11.6C! Sounds like your temperature sensor might be over exposed - It catches the early morning sun at this time of year but is in shade from about 0800. It can be affected by warm air from the shed roof on still days, there was a bit of air movement but perhaps not enough. Today is hovering around 15 C. My real comment was about the rather rapid drop of 8 C or so that I couldn't match up with anything on the charts. A drop at about 0.5 C/minute over the 15 mins or so with the fastest being quicker than 1 C/min. Sun in/out doesn't change the recorded temperature *that* quickly. I think you saw a sudden transition from air warmed overland up until 1500, replaced by cooler air chilled by the North Sea as the convergence zone drifted west under the greater density of the North Sea air. Not a classic Norwegian cold front, but certainly not uncommon. You won't see it on a weather chart for two reasons - the presenters tend to concentrate on and show active weather-bearing fronts; and they are leery about displaying convergence zones because they "don't want to confuse viewers". -- Freddie Bayston Hill Shropshire 102m AMSL http://www.hosiene.co.uk/weather/ https://twitter.com/#!/BaystonHillWx for hourly reports |
