My brain seems to just do its own thing, sometimes making me type a completely irrational word. I put it down to an age thing but it's very annoying when some smart person draws attention to it and corrects you as if you didn't know! Dave |

It's like your typing fingers are operating at arm's length, so to speak, from the rest of your brain (because familiarity with a PC keyboard eventually translates into not having to pay conscious attention to the words you're typing, so the part of your brain that works out the required letters to type in a word is not subject to the final editing/correction that conscious thought brings). Personally I think that it's quite an interesting phenomenon because of what it might illustrate about exactly how the brain processes words for typing. I did mention this to Trevor Harley once, knowing of his professional interest in these matters (see http://goo.gl/H5o74 for instance), but I think he too felt that it was likely just a consequence of the years clicking past.
