August breakdown - being pushed further and further back

I notice from the charts that 30C is possible again the first few days of August. Is there a breakdown coming or not?

It depends on your definition of 'breakdown'. Given that HP has receded and we are already into thundery and showery outbreaks with LP becoming more dominant you could say it has already broken down. People getting deluged tomorrow would I am sure argue that it has broken down!

Temperatures will drop closer to normal early next week but another hot plume does indeed look like developing across Europe around Wed-Fri next week to the east of the upper trough near the British Isles, likewise followed by heavy rain and thunderstorms. After that it looks like there'll be a longer period of more moderate temperatures (near normal on average across the UK) with unsettled weather, later next week and into the week commencing 5th August.

By the way, there is a risk of severe thunderstorms, large hail and even tornadoes from this afternoon into this weekend, especially in an area across the north-western half of France, BeNeLux and western Germany.

Stephen.
