I was thinking we was having a cold September, but the CET is only -0.1c
from average. Sept 1986 was CET 11.3C, 2.4c below average and Sept
1952 was CET 10.7C, 3c below average.

It will be interesting to see which way the latest volcanic activity will take it.

Some pretty pictures from the skies above Indonesia:

I have an idea that the cyclonic stuff that arrived as all those tropical storms reached their peak will turnm into a blocking High agasin. But now it is no longer summer it should produce different results to what we had earlier in the year.

Am I right?

Those split lows that develop (according to the MetO North Atlantic charts) tend to do that with the Highs no?

A lack of chilly nights presumably accounts for that.

Here in '86, we'd had about eight ground (sorry, grass) frosts by now
and four air frosts.

ISTR that the first week or so of September this year was warm.

Looks like the High gets as far as the Midlands:

I'm not so sure that volcanoes cause the highs now; though they might impact SSWs. The blocking high has always been "there" this year. But then again it would, wouldn't it?

Have a look at Monday. It is worth noting that along with volcanic activity we have had a tornado almost every day according to the NWS. Interesting fronts, no?
