Unliked the well hyped St Jude's storm (yes I know it was a decent gale in some places, but not here) we now have a real gale anywhere a bit exposed.
Currently gusting 45-50mph in sheltered Penzance, the same as it peaked over the nearby moors during St Jude (E.g. peak gust of 44kt at Bosullow). Recent gusts close to 70mph om St. Mary's. Sea conditions are very very poor,if you look at http://www.sennen-cove.com/harbourcam.htm before it get s dark, the breakwater disappears at times. Graham Penzance |

Over in Wales, Mumbles have recently reported a gust of 73 knots. |

Graham Penzance ----------------------------------------------------- Nearly up to St Jude's levels then but I suspect it will be much more prolonged as the 70 mph gusts were only for an hour or so max. Some recent gusts up to 25mph but it felt a lot more if you were trying to light fireworks for the grandchildren! Dave S.Essex |

Dave S.Essex Quietening down now, but you say it was quite long lasting. See Sevenstones http://www.ndbc.noaa.gov/station_page.php?station=62107 35kt from 11:00-18:00, swell 20' since 15:00 I particularly like this photo, it's hard to appreciate the size of waves but they make the fairly substantial breakwater look totally insigninficant. http://www.sennen-cove.com/lbtdy.htm You can just see the lifeboat slip at the left of the picture (sheltered? by the brakwater). It's lucky they didn't have to launch it through that sea. It's a real shame the Land's End site is down. Graham Penzance |
