Postbridge 92.6mm so far today.
Haytor 60+ mm in 5 inch gauge (not measured yet but emptied out as was
full).
Gusting 48 knots at Postbridge. 35 knots at my sheltered site in Haytor.
Roads closed, trees down, never seen the moor around Haytor so wet in 11
years. Every single path going downhill is a fast flowing stream, some 2
feet deep in gullies and quite dangerous. Local river Lemon has burst its
banks with over 2 feet of flood water closing the main road to Widecombe.
Saw one car almost prang itself as it came to a sudden stop. Lost a bit of
bumper, lucky not to get the engine hydro-locked.

Dire outside, I guess with an unpredented 280mph jet of yesterday we're in unchartered waters atm. Quite surprised no 'red' warnings have been issued. For my part and the SE it looks like the critical time is 18z to about 03z 24th, the radar is showing a distinctive line of intense rain on its back edge, a sting jet dare I say on top of what's already blowing...

You said in your winter forecast that it would be flooding NOT ice that would be making the headlines this year. I SALUTE you, sir. YOU were RIGHT!!!

Down 'ere in the lowlands it hasn't been that wet today but still a
soggy 16.3 mm up to 17:00. This makes it the wettest day of the month so
far.

The Dartmoor rainfall shadow working its magic...

Mild out there with 12.2C.

Yes but no but, on this side of Dartmoor (no rain shadow)we have had only
16.9 mm in my 5 inch gauge up to 1800z which is hard to believe.
There must be quite an under reading due to the severe gales.

Plymouth Mt Batten is reporting 13.4 mm up to 1800z.

We had a brief lull for an hour here but now the rain is hammering down again at 1920z.

19:00 Postbridge now up to 100.4 mm, and still the rain comes down.
59.4 mm in 5" gauge in Haytor at 1800.

Very wet in the lowlands here Nick. 35mm so far today and it is still raining. Dawlish water was bank-full this afternoon and high tide is at 9.30. Could well be flooding here. I hope the properties near the sea outlet have sandbags at the ready. I dread to think what the morning will bring across Devon, as it has been exceptionally wet an some people's Christmases will be very soggy ones. Ouch.

40mm today. Wind refusing to abate. Not a night to be out in a small boat.
