Default Scorching El Nino event could scupper England's World Cup - utter rubbish.

This is an example of a hack being an idiot. El Nino conditions are not even forecast to have developed by the time the World Cup is played!

It is these ridiculous climate scare stories, promulgated by people with very little knowledge (but surely, being ""environment correspondent" should give you a little more insight than, say "restaurant critic", but in this case, sadly and roundly (haha) no!), which harm science. It is very similar to the idiocy spouted on here, recently, about scientists being able to link drought in Syria to AGW. They can't and these stories, the source of which is never scientists, just play into the hands of climate deniers.

It may be hot in Manaus for England's first game; indeed it is likely to be warmer than Manchester, but it will have sod-all to do with ENSO.
