Title: Hotel trying, but not one to stay in. Too hot.

Stayed one night here and wished I hadn't. It's a budget hotel, but the quality on offer was way poorer than I expected. Building work is on going to upgrade the tired hotel and the public areas are dirty and very tatty. However that will be temporary and that is not the real problem.

I was in room 149, one that hasn't yet been upgraded. There are hot water pipes running around two sides of the room and the temperature must have been 85 degrees. I should have realised earlier, as the windows were wide open, but I had a dinner engagement elsewhere and returned at 9.30. Sleep was impossible. With that level of heat, you couldn't close the windows and there is traffic noise. At midnight I gave up trying and asked for another room..

The night porter was initially good and showed me two other rooms in the upgraded section and guess what? Both had red hot pipes around the inside of the room and the windows were wide open to let the heat escape. All the exit doors in the hotel were wide open, as the heat in the hotel was awful and the hotel knew it. As it was after midnight, I accepted the second room as I was tired! Still had a poor night's sleep as it was far too warm.

Although the night porter offered help to move rooms, he never arrived, When I passed the lobby, with my baggage, he had opened the bar to serve people at 00.30 am and failed completely to help. The upgraded room (313) was also too hot and I spent a restless night swapping between the twin beds as one became soaked in sweat. A dreadful night's non-sleep.

I complained the next morning, as one should do. Initially the response was poor. The receptionist said I wouldn't get a refund because the hotel can't do anything about the weather!!! It was 24C in the daytime and 11C at night. The first room was around 30C. It certainly wasn't the weather. She then said that the room rate was non-refundable!! That's for a no-show! There was no manager available. However, on complaining to the manger by email, I was offered (and accepted) a full refund. Hence the two stars and not less and a review which acknowledges the hotel's response.

I stayed the next night, close by, in a much better and slightly cheaper local hotel which I have reviewed.

If he ever crosses a line and posts personal details, the law is there to protect and I wouldn't hesitate to use it.

I've written many reviews on Tripadvisor. Please read them, if you wish. I hope they are useful to other people and I find their views extremely useful. I certainly wouldn't stay in this hotel again!

It's sunny and fairly breezy outside; a nice day. That's probably more useful here, but this one would have no idea of what I am talking about. *))

Why are you posting a hotel review here? What possible relevance does it
have to this group? I haven't the slightest interest in whether Dawlish
liked his hotel or not.
