Only Demon news is being withdrawn. The demonites live on.
It shows there is still someone there with a sense of humour.

I never used Demon but my ISP in the Isle of Man provided what was/is
(?) the best email and news programme ever - Demon's Turnpike. Sadly
support and updates for Turnpike stopped some years ago now but I still
soldier on, using it on Windows XP via a Virtual Machine.

I've tried all the other email and news programmes but can't seem to
wean myself off Turnpike. Anybody else still clinging to Turnpike ?

Which feature(s) of Turnpike do you rely on. I have found that Mozilla
Thunderbird can be made to work close enough to TP to be OK for me.

The only thing I really miss are full regex matching for routing and
killfiles. On the plus side you can test new rules easily in TB but you
have to work within the limitations of what it provides.

There was a thread in d.service or s.ip.turnpike that described which
addons to use to get a close approximation to TP behaviour.

under 64-bit versions of Windows). I'm not sure whether your v6.05 would
work, though. I think you may need the final version, which is 6.07. If
anyone is interested in running TP under 32-bit Windows 7 or 8 (or, as
you are doing, running it on a VM under a 64-bit version of Windows),
you can ask for advice on demon.ip.support.turnpike, which is still
going strong. (And the demise of Demon's own news server - actually it
was outsourced to an outfit called Highwinds in recent years - shouldn't
affect that.)

Thanks for responding, I didn't realise Demon turnpike support newsgroup
was still going. Any idea from where I can download Turnpike 6.07 please
?

I'm determined to cling onto TP, no matter what !! Perhaps I should go
back to Win 95.

Thanks for responding. I particularly like the routing and killfiles
that you mention. Also it's seamless threading of posts, messages and
it's handling of email lists. Plus it's rather plain interface is
appealing too.

I've tried Thunderbird thanks and appreciate it can be made to work
quite similarly to Turnpike. I've also got Agent which is a very
comprehensive news and mail programme, it too can be made to approximate
Turnpike.

I used TB for a long while but occasionally a little filed mail would go
missing. It seemed to be a feature of mbox storage as I discovered
that MS mail systems have the same trouble; the advice offered for MS
users was to avoid compacting folders when online and I assume the
same would be true for TB users.

I switched to Claws as that uses a different storage system. Still keep
TB for the calendar (Lightning) as it's the only one that does
everything I need.

Make sure that you install over your existing TP folders (having first
backed them up, just in case), so as not to lose any information. To run
the Turnpike installer you must be logged in with administrator
privileges. If you have any problems, ask on demon.ip.support.turnpike.
