I see we are promised the coldest night of the autumn tomorrow night with
frost in many places. This reminded me that in my tiny part of suburban
Essex we have not had a single frost this year !.
I happen to live on the highest part of Woodford Green so doubtless some of
lowest parts of this borough have had several frosts but I wonder how many
other stations around London have also escaped this year.
This has got to be some kind of record ..............and oh yes I've been
recording for 60 years !

That is my absolute, all time No 1 ***pet hate*** song. I loathe
it so much that I won't stay to buy in any shop where it is
played. Soppy, sentimental, smarmy, saccharin - there aren't
enough pejorative adjectives for it. Yech!

Yes thanks for sharing that Anne , is nice the get a bucketful of bile now and again but for what its worth and in my humble opinion White Christmas is one of the greatest Christmas songs ever written and by a Jew who wouldn't have celebrated the occasion possibly as much except possibly the song had a special sad meaning for Irving Berlin as his infant son Irving junior died of Typhoid fever on Christmas day morning.

And I do realise that you was on a run with the alliteration but I'd go with

The Sweetest, most satisfying, sentimental, sensitive and sacrosanct popular songs of the last 100 years.

"smarmy"......are you barmy?

Are you sure Dave it isn't meant to "rock" next you'll being saying "back in the day" and have a piercing with a ring in your ear and at tattoo . No and despite Anne's criticism of the song being 'sentimental'. Well whoopee doopy do ; it was bloody meant to be 'sentimental'.

But Larry, you seem not to have realised that
'I'm dreaming of a White Christmas
Just like the ones I used to know'
is a confirmation of global warming.

Irving Berlin knew a thing or two even way back then.
I would have thought it would stick in your throat.
Like the UKMO's stance on global warming.

Perhaps sentimentality makes us all blind?

I totally agree - it's awful, utterly awful. Absolutely top-drawer schmaltz.
