Perhaps that's why the models are suggesting that high pressure is going
to take over in a few days time.

That's all I **** need!

I'm issuing my winter forecast this week and I have already changed my ideas
once in the past week, might have to re-think again, perhaps to something a
little more juicy than "a changeable 1960s type winter, not as wet as last
year, colder than last year with normal amounts of snow (for the modern
era)".

It could be interesting as the usual December cold snap that's all over
by Christmas, may be a little later this year. Is it worth a flutter ?

An area of particular SSW appears across W China and into E Russia. Not seen it concentrated there for a long while.

Do you recall your 2010/11 winter forecast?
The *ping* as that entered your waste bin in mid December reverberated
around USW for several days

Mind you seeing "1960s" and "winter" in the same sentence is juicy enough ;-)
Admittedly I was not around then but aside from the obvious 1963 the sixties winters seemed to be a pretty snowy lot, even in the south.

Compared with last winter even an 'average' winter this year would feel severe...

Something broke an hour or so back. I think we are in for the first real tropical storm of the season. Whatever it is, it will be nice to have some clarity in all senses of the word.

Tropical Storm ? We are in the UK, so that is impossible,as we are mist definitely in a Temperate zone.
