Default Penzance - A completely different morning, Dolphins etc.

Yesterday across west Cornwall, F6-8 wind, cloud, rain, well this http://www.sennen-cove.com/lbtdy.htm

This morning light to moderate breeze and good sunny spells. At 09:00 a F3 wind, and 10.2C after an overnight min of 7.8C.

Won't last of course, but a very welcome break in the quite stormy conditions.

Great conditions now forecast for the Easter weekend, 4'-8' with largely offshore winds http://magicseaweed.com/Sennen-Surf-Report/4/ . Just as well the lifeguards are back now the Easter rush has started, surfboards/bodyboards appearing everywhere.

Also, a pod of Dolphins in the Bay, nice to see http://marinediscovery.co.uk/blog/ for a great video (Penzance & the Mount in background)

Looking at the radar the forecast rain seems to be passing to the north of Cornwall at the moment, still bright in Penzance. Largish swell below the Minack http://www.minack.com/webcams.htm

Still basically dry, we did recently have a few spots of drizzle, but barely enough to dampen the ground & certainly not measurable. The radar certainly overstated it.

Still currently dry & bright in Penzance, although drizzle & mist now sweeping in to Sennen, http://www.sennen-cove.com/harbourcam.htm , nothing on the radar this time, it's all too fine.

It's not the droplet size - it's the fact that the rain is forming and
falling below the radar beam, so it wouldn't show on the output.

Unlike earlier when the raindrops intersected the radar beam giving the
appearance of a solid rain area , but there was a dry layer beneath the
rain-bearing cloud which enabled evaporation of most of the rain before
it reached ground level - hence your experience of a largely dry day.

It is interesting that you experienced two situations in the same day
whereby care was needed in the interpretation of the radar output.

On the Atlantic coastal fringe the fine, low level drizzle which avoids the radar is not an uncommon occurrence.

We only had 0.7mm in the 24 hours to 09:00 today. Locally, last nights highest wind speeds and strongest gusts were generally similar, or just below the values recorded Sunday morning.

Taking Land's End as an example.
Sunday Max Mean Speed 48mph. Max Gust 61mph
Last night Max Mean Speed 43mph Max Gust 56mph

My site saw a maximum gust of 46mph compared to 45mph on Sunday, but my exposure varies significantly with wind direction.

Much quieter currently. The same can't be said for the sea, the swell size is now approaching 18' off Land's End.
