West Cornwall - Another sunny & warm coastal fringe day - pics
A particular feature of recent months, even more so than normal.
Unbroken sunshine when I was out at Sennen (10:00-13:30) http://www.easterling.freeserve.co.uk/190915.html but a considerable build up of cloud just inland. Nothing threatening, the Cu soon hit the stable layer and quickly formed a fairly extensive Sc sheet away from the immediate coast. Penzance, being in a deep Bay, has been under the cloud about 80% of the time since 11:00. Minimum last night was 9.0C. Maximum in Penzance, under the cloud around 17C. Warmer on the sunnier coasts. Max so far 18.2C at Land's End, so probably around 19C down in Sennen where it was calm. Around 18.5C on St Mary's exposed airport, 19.8C at the more sheltered St. Martin's site. Scilly always does particularly well under still conditions - no sea breeze to cap the temperature & virtually no Cu development. No surf, so I just made the most of a beer in the sun. I saw seals, but the basking shark turned out to be a snorkeller. If it was for some smartass with binoculars we'd have been happy sticking with basking shark. Graham Penzance |

Graham Penzance Just after I posted this the gentlest of sea breezes pushed the cloud back inland and it's been sunny ever since, with the temperature edging up to a maximum of 18.2C around 16:00. A gentle sea breeze started around 11:20 and kept the sky cloud-free all day. The early haze gradually cleared and I can see them Devonshire Hills again. A maximum of 20.1C and with a DP of around 16C for much of the afternoon it has felt quite warm. -- Nick Gardner Otter Valley, Devon 20 m amsl http://www.ottervalley.co.uk |

Even at 10:00, when I was at Land's End airport, you could see Scilly. Most of the day it was simply stunning. Late afternoon/early eve (going by the empty beach, state of tide & shadows!) http://www.sennen-cove.com/index.htm A day like today there's nowhere else I'd rather be. Graham Penzance |
